It follows a very simple formula used by studios for most movies like this. I found it to be very predictable and knew exactly what was going to happen in the end.
That is very disappointing because I like to be surprised. However, I did find it a bit entertaining in a quirky kind of way and the lead actress who plays Bianca is so adorable you can't help but root for her.
I would give this movie at least one shot just to see what you think. After that, if you get hooked I couldn't even begin to explain why.

Granted I am over 50, and this movie is really not for my generation. I watched it with my 20 something year old kids. Social cliques and mean-spirited people have no generation gap.
That is all a part of growing up and unfortunately some people never get past it. I liked the actress that was the main character and I felt her character development was good.
The male lead finally developed emotionally but it was only because he came to an impasse. I was disappointed with the end. Does every high school aged girl need a man to feel complete?

Will she pick the right guy and shed her unwanted DUFF moniker? Mae Whitman is charming as Bianca and she is well supported by an excellent ,likeable cast.
Another thing that I liked about this film was that there was hardly any swearing or real nastiness in it. This is an easy to watch funny movie.
Bianca plays the 'Duff' which she wasn't aware of, what with being friends with 2 of the popular girls in school, until her good looking neighbour and childhood friend points this out.
It's basically a film about how she learns to except herself as she is and not follow the crowd and that people love her for who she is and not what she looks like!
It's predictable but still worth watching! I bought this DVD for Christmas for my girlfriend who loves chick-flicks and romances.
The product arrived very quickly and being a man I thought I'd hate it but it was surprisingly good! My girlfriend has read the book which she thoroughly enjoyed and so the film had to live up to high expectations which it did.
The storyline deviated a fair bit from the book but this was positive as it put a new spin on the characters that she hadn't expected. The DVD came in a high quality case and the disk was in perfect condition.

There are a lot of things to enjoy, one of the initial drawing points for me was Ken Jeong from Community who plays a funny, but quite sensible Newspaper Bella Thorne does a wonderful job at the stereotypical love to hate mean girl, but she is the most glaring trope of the movie, as Mae Whitman's two gorgeous best friends are delightfully like-able, intelligent, and understanding throughout the whole flick.
Robbie Amell is a nice blend of smart talking and jock that works at loosening up Mae Whitman's stressed out and overly sensitive persona over the course of the movie.
This movie is silly, bordering on over the top in one scene in particular, but otherwise just seems to be keenly self aware of itself in a world with a lot of teenage focus movies.
It has some clever lines, had me uttering more than just the occasional giggle, and is fun modern take on the High School classic.
