The finest vintage cheddar, Mythica tells the story of a Dungeons and Dragons game with Marek, the Sorcerer who the GM kinda fancies, Thane, her best friend, Teela, the girl Thane's interested in but doesn't quite have the balls to ask out and Dagen, the oddly charming murder-hobo.
This is not an ironic 5 Star review - I loved every second of these movies and binged the lot over two evenings. While the effects are "budget", it has a great heart, brilliant writing and characters that you will eventually be sad that you have to leave them at the end.
If that sentence filled you with glee, you'll love these movies. For anyone expecting a sanitized bland pristine hollywood imagined film such as "Snow white and the huntsman" then this review is not for you.
This boxset has 5 dvd's included and though you can watch each as a stand alone it would be better to watch each in sequence. This is a hard hitting series of films and they certainly do not have it easy and the fight scenes are so realistic.
This entire series is so riveting it is the best thing i have purchased in a long time and well worth the small price if buying on the marketplace used I wish I could give more than 5 stars Melanie Stone as Marek is cast perfectly so just for her go and get this and enjoy.
Mythica feels like a series of feature length episodes rather than a movie box set. The CGI, acting, effects and makeup are not the best, but these do not have the blockbuster budget.
Kevin Sorbo makes short appearances and is one of the producers. If you enjoyed the Xena and Hercules series', then this may be a good series for you.
I have given this a strong 3 stars, for a movie box set. If it was a series I would have seen it as 4 stars, because less game of thrones the standards are generally lower than movies.
I do feel as though this might have been more successful if it had been released as a series, rather than a set of movies.

Firstly they seem to be reminiscing a lot about playing "Dungeons and Dragons" and how it relates to the films. Secondly they gloss over all the flaws caused by a low budget, reminding us that they were funded by "Kickstarter" instead of a studio.
Board games references are lost on me and I find them irrelevant. Never played it but liked the cartoon series as a kid and actually enjoyed the unsuccessful movie.
I wouldn't have referenced the budget if it hadn't affected the product. If you overgrade these because of the low budget, how does this affect better films with an appropriate budget?

It is definitely neither 1 or 5 stars, belonging somewhere in between. Overall I wish that this project had been picked up by "Netflix" or "Amazon Prime" and pruduced as a series.
It was enjoyable for what it is but had much more potential. Please watch with an open mind and decide for yourself.
Saw first movie and loved it so when found full set on amazon snatched it up and dont regret for a moment. Excellent stories and actors, to answer reviewers who complain about lack of big studio budget i say this; close your mouth your ignorance is showing.
These movies are all fan financed via kickstarter but that doesnt diminish the enjoyment to be had here.
Personally i love these and kevin sorbo being involved is a big bonus. I have one more movie left to watch and this will then be borrowed by my kids so literally does appeal to all ages.

Considered renting the other three, then checked here and bought the box set - it truly is a bargain. This reminds me of Dungeons and Dragons - you can almost see the dice roll at times - but that only adds, Not detracts.
